Where does the water go?

2026

polarizing film sculpture "a collection of things noticed" by Frank Geiser

Modified LCD monitors, polarizing film, digitally manipulated videos of running water, wood, plexiglass, raspberry pi video players.

“Where does the water go?” consists of several LCD monitors with their front linear polarizing filter removed. What at first appears to be blank white screens is transformed by looking through polarizing film housed in suspended wooden viewfinders. Looking at the screens through these viewfinders, one finds silent, looping videos of running water. Each video is glitched, mirrored, echoed, or otherwise digitally manipulated in some way.

The act of looking through viewfinders in "Where does the water go?" encourages viewers to consider their relationship to and reliance on anthropocentric attitudes towards water and water infrastructure, especially amidst the backdrop of a worldwide push to construct new data centers.
